FADPKD/FPKD
Feline autosomal-dominant polycystic disease (FADPKD) or feline polycystic kidney disease
(F PKD) is a genetic disease in felines that causes cysts on/in the kidney(s) that develop throughout the affected cats life. Cysts are fluid filled closed membranous sacs that can occur on any tissue of the body, in this case the cysts are throughout the kidney. The cysts are present at birth and are usually very small but develop and enlarge as the cat ages. The cysts vary between individual cats in size, shape, number and rate of development. Eventually, the cysts take over normal kidney tissues to the point the kidney(s) cannot function properly and will progressively lead to kidney failure and even death.
